I have been planning for today for several weeks. I was happy to wake up today and help my “middle child” Alex celebrate his fourth birthday! Alex has been anticipating THIS birthday for a long time. I’m still not sure why the fourth is so special, but it doesn’t matter. He has been excited, thus so have I. Since he has been so excited and is young he was having a hard time grasping the whole “it’s in 8 days” concept. I
made a countdown poster for him. (Shown) It’s simple. I printed the basics on a piece of party type paper, laminated it and wrote the numbers individually on post-its. I stuck the post-its on the poster and added a staple so they would stay when he torn a new page daily. This did the trick!
I woke Alex up and said “Good morning baby, Happy Birthday!” He stirred for about half of a second and sat up smiling. It became very apparent to me a few days before that he is much like his mother. He loves ALL THINGS CHOCOLATE. I had asked him what foods he wanted to eat and take to preschool, etc. So the days menu was as follows: Breakfast – chocolate – chocolate chip waffles and chocolate milk. Preschool snack for himself & class – oreos and chocolate milk. Lunch – pizza with a friend. We had his CHOCOLATE cake with chocolate frosting and presents after Ella got home from school. For dinner – McDonald’s – HAPPY MEAL, with chocolate milk. We don’t go there often, our kids rarely get Happy Meals, this really was a treat for them all. And I didn’t have to cook.
Alex is an awesome child! He is super cool and rock-starish. He is full of life
and ENERGY and is very loving and considerate of others. He isn’t afraid to do much and is all boy. At his tender young age he is learning so much through preschool, taekwondo, gymnastics, spending time with his siblings, other kids at church, playgroup, and club meetings. Alex wants to do things for others and reminds me from time to time that I need to do more special things for people. I try. I get caught in our routines and don’t always slow down to make an extra effort for someone. I am GUILTY. Alex is fantastic at making people laugh and see things through a child’s eyes. I cried when I first held him. I knew then what a special blessing he was. I didn’t know HOW SPECIAL. I have been so proud today to see HIS LIGHT SHINE! He has had genuine happiness and lots of it today. He deserves it and I am thankful to be a part of it.
Happy Birthday Mr. Alex! We love you so much! Making a child’s birthday special means so much! Today I wanted him to have all the things that made him happy. It’s important for kids to be kids, and sometimes for adults to be kids. I drank chocolate milk right along with him.
